THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will evaluate, plan, and provide public health education services relating to the collection and reporting of vital events. You will also evaluate trends in rejections and develop forms and correspondence aimed at improving stakeholder compliance. In this role, you will conduct surveys and studies, perform field and desk audits, and otherwise engage the vital events community to provide education, develop strategies to improve timeliness and quality, and promote standardization of public health vital event data collection and reporting.

In addition, you will provide administrative support to the Director of Statistical Registries by assisting in the development of quality assurance initiatives; facilitating the adoption of recommendations made by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), and National Association for Public Health Statistics and Information Systems (NAPHSIS); and preparing for vital events accreditation.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You would report to the office every Thursday unless you are in the field training. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. This position will have two weeks minimum of mandatory on-site training.
  • Travel: This position will require some travel.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Public Health Educator 1; or
  • One year of professional public health education experience and a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 credits in public health, public health education, health education, community health, health science, epidemiology, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 24 credits in public health, public health education, health education, community health, health science, epidemiology, or a related field.
