Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Must have past experience with leadership of software development teams and interfacing with customers.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required within a reasonable period of time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

As a Chief Engineer in our Progeny Business Area, you will lead a team of engineers to successfully deliver a comprehensive SecDevOps software solution for the US Navy with a strong focus on automated functional testing and the cybersecurity health of consumed software payloads. This team is responsible for software development and resolution of integration issues. You will directly contribute to the technical success of the program through hands-on technical contributions, leadership, and management of an engineering team. This includes advancing the technical vision, developing people as technical contributors, building the team, and fostering innovation. Candidates will have demonstrated recent, relevant technical contributions to a major production system, and shown the ability to lead and mentor others. Successful candidates will be excellent communicators, have a passion for technical progress and improvement, intellectually curious, and be strongly motivated to lead and nurture a cross functional team.

Position Objectives

  • The direct program work will include technical work and subject matter expertise for the system; e.g., technical lead, mission critical technical role, or community wide working group leadership).
  • Drive the success of the program by delivering on our engineering commitments and being accountable for the performance of your team.
  • Identify and communicate project risks, assess issues, and support the development of resolutions that meet cost, schedule, productivity and quality objectives.
  • Constructively interact with other managers, business area stakeholders and employees to establish and achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Personally create and deliver contract deliverables or other work products required by Engineering Leadership.
  • Work with Program Management to ensure programs have the correct staff size and skills mixture.
  • Support identification of new technologies, capability improvements and roadmaps, along with enabling cross program collaboration to leverage technologies, resources or designs that may not have been previously considered.
  • Responsible for a SecDevOps platform that integrates automated testing, CI/CD, blue-green testing, and automated decision making.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in Program Execution, Project Management
  • Experienced in DevOps/Agile methodologies - Scrum, Kanban, etc.
  • Experienced in leading small Software Development team
  • Experience using Linux (basic OS comprehension and basic shell scripting), preferably Red Hat or derivatives
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker/Podman, GitLab
  • Experience with open source software and custom software, as well as integration between software applications using middle tier integration and data-driven models
  • Experience in cybersecurity best practices
  • Cloud computing experience - AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle, including configuration management, good coding practices, and experience in writing, testing, and deploying production-quality software
  • Ability to manage day-to-day tasking for a small group of developers
  • Familiarity with hypervisor virtualization
  • Mentors junior resources and conducts knowledge transfer sessions
  • Presents as SME for various business development initiatives and customer briefings
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Education/Experience

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar degree
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Software/Systems Engineering field

Target salary range: USD $200,145.00/Yr. - USD $222,035.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
