Job Description
Under general supervision, supervises Central Sterile Processing shift operations. Monitors decontamination, equipment cleaning, sterilization, instrument assembly and case cart picking.

Education:
High School
AA Degree in related field preferred.
Licensure:
CRCST; CHL, CER, and CIS required within 1 year of hire
Experience:
At least five years related work experience.
Three years' previous experience as a sterile processing supervisor
Skills:
* Organizational and leadership skills in order to coordinate and prioritize work of CSR Techs.
* Analytical skills
* Problem-solving skills
* Ability to use a computer as well as application software to enter and retrieve data.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the receipt, processing, storage, and utilization of surgical instruments, implants, and disposable sterile inventory and ensures immediate replenishment of low, broken, or missing items as needed
  • Collaborates with medical and nursing staff to provide effective materials management services.
  • Participates in the department's Performance Improvement Program. Investigates Performance improvement dilemmas and recommends process changes.
  • Performs equipment and sterilization care and inspection and acts as a maintenance resource to the medical and nursing staff.
  • Makes rounds in OR as needed to proactively ascertain needs. Assist Shift Leaders to meet OR needs, address issues and improve customer service. Reconcile OR schedule with preference cards for next day cases.
  • Oversees flow of case carts to ensure timely completion for schedule, add-on and emergent cases. Supervises the activities for the case cart preparation and processing of instruments and supplies, which include sorting, cleaning, distribution of sterile supplies, and instruments.
  • Communicates to facilitator, revisions and corrections to be made to the "Aesculap Asset Management System" instrument set lists (ISL).
  • Ensures timely completion of expected daily production; adjusts staff schedules, priorities and workflow as needed. Maintains daily record of workload and case cart volumes. Reviews schedule and assignments to assure adequate 24-7 SPD coverage. Consistently leads a shift report for each shift to communicate all current activity and next day needs.
  • Responsible for ordering, stocking, and inventory control of all Sterile Department supplies.
  • Oversees the training of new employees. Facilitates new employee's completion of unit based competencies.
  • Develops and implements work schedule to ensure departmental coverage. Processes payroll.
